Governance Committee

Review of Heritage Saskatchewan’s Constitution and Bylaws, November 2010 to February 2012

As part of its ongoing work, the Governance Committee of Heritage Saskatchewan has initiated a complete review of that organization’s current Constitution and Bylaws.

Because Heritage Saskatchewan is a new organization, the Governance Committee of the Board felt it was prudent to conduct this review after our first full year of operations.

The review will be completed as part of a 15-month process that will span two Heritage Saskatchewan AGMS, the 2011 AGM and the 2012 AGM. A small number of amendments will be presented at the 2011 AGM, and the remaining amendments will be presented at the 2012 AGM.

The Governance Committee’s initial overview of the Constitution and Bylaws, coupled with the experience that has been gained by the organization over the last year, has resulted in the identification of some areas which have an immediate impact on the operations of Heritage Saskatchewan. It would be preferable to change these areas in 2011, rather than waiting for the completion of the full review by 2012. Therefore, a select number of amendments will be presented for member ratification at this year’s AGM, in February 2011.

The Governance Committee will complete the full overview of the Constitution and Bylaws during the remainder of 2011, and present the final amendments at the February 2012 AGM.

This will undoubtedly not be the last time the Bylaws are amended (many organizations have some Bylaw amendments almost every year), but by completing a full review of the entire document at this time, we will hopefully eliminate the need for any more major revisions in the immediate future of the organization.
