The Power of the Past —The Role of Memory & How Heritage Contributes to Quality of Life
This session will explore the power of the past in shaping present day experience. Plenary Speaker, David Goa, will reflect on the role of memory and how our values and beliefs, actualized through cultural traditions and rituals inform not only our present actions but also our choices for the future. This plenary session is intended to focus our attention on the importance of developing a shared understanding of the past in order to build a shared future. David Goa will then facilitate a dialogue with three notable Saskatchewan residents who use their past experiences in creative ways to build healthy communities in the present, enhancing the quality of life for all.
Mapping Tangible and Intangible Heritage
This session will focus on the symbiotic relationship between tangible and intangible heritage and the importance of maintaining the connection between them. Each presenter will share their experiences related to establishing the value or significance of heritage resources in order to ensure both tangible and intangible heritage resources are identified, protected and used appropriately.
How Heritage Tourism Contributes to Sustainable Development
This session will focus on the shared interests of heritage tourism and the need for sustainable development of our heritage resources. Each presenter will share their thoughts on how these resources can be developed to meet the needs of the present without compromising their integrity and authenticity. Responsible stewardship can meet the needs of local communities and visitors as well as future generations.
